PERR: REPUBLICAN LEADER’S 9/11 POLITICAL FUNDRAISER LACKS SENSITIVITY & UNDERSTANDING
Calls on Warner to Donate Proceeds to Charity
(BURLINGTON CITY) – Democratic Chairman Richard Perr today blasted Burlington County Republican Leader Michael Warner for scheduling a fundraiser in his name on September 11, 2006, the five year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, labeling the Republican’s decision-making as insensitive and out-of-touch with Americans’ emotions and understanding of the life-changing event.
“The events of September 11 have forever changed our nation,” said Perr, who was sworn in as chairman in June. “Most Americans recognize this by observing the day, remembering those that lost their lives and the heartache their families underwent. Unfortunately, the Republican Party has demonstrated an unprecedented lack of sensitivity by raising money for political purposes on the five year anniversary of this horrific event.”
According to the Burlington County Republican’s website, www.burlcogop.com/calendar, the GOP will be holding a fundraiser entitled, “Chairman Mike Warner’s Annual Golf Outing,” on September 11, 2006. GovNetNJ.com, a website that tracks legislation, press releases and political fundraisers, list no other candidate or party committee hosting a fundraiser on September 11, leaving the Burlington County Republicans alone in their arrogance.
“To honor those that suffered as a result of the September 11 attacks, I am calling on Chairman Warner and the Republican Party to donate the entire proceeds from the event to a well-know 9/11 charity,” said Perr.
The Central Record, of Medford, published a report in their August 24 edition, “Medford to mark 5th Anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks,” which lists that Senator Martha Bark will be presenting a proclamation commending elected officials for properly observing the anniversary.
"Perhaps Senator Bark should school her former employee on why engaging in pure partisan politics on September 11 is offensive," said Perr. "Quite frankly, I would have expected more from someone who has been elected to a political leadership position in this region of the country."
