Statement of Roger Nogaki
Former Chairman, Evesham Township Municipal Utilities Authority

(Marlton, NJ) – "After reading today's news stories about how Burlington County GOP Chairman Glenn Paulsen helped orchestrate numerous lucrative bond deals on behalf of his family and friends at taxpayer expense, I finally realized why he and his allies made such an aggressive effort to threaten me and eventually block my reappointment to the Evesham Township Municipal Utilities Authority as retribution for refusing to recommend UBS Paine Webber.

I served as a member of the Evesham MUA from 1999 to 2004. While I am a registered Democrat, I was appointed as a member of this public board with the full confidence and unanimous consent of the Republican-Controlled Township Committee, which at that time included Republican Burlington County Freeholder Dawn Addiego. I accepted this appointment with great enthusiasm because I believed overt political partisanship would not play a role in the governance of this agency.

I was very proud to be a part of the MUA - ensuring a cleaner environment and preserving our resident's drinking water has always been and continues to be my passion. Under my leadership, the MUA operated with a significant surplus, thereby minimizing the need for bonding on projects.

On several occasions in the last year of my term, I received calls from Brian Kowalski and others. The individuals warned that, "It would be in my best interest to recommend UBS Paine Webber" for bond work with the MUA. Despite their efforts, I refused to be pressured.

As the pieces to the puzzle began coming together, specifically how Glenn Paulsen enriched his family and friends through these highly questionable bond dealings, I feel as if the community's best interest has taken a back seat to the financially motivated political agendas that continue to flourish through the selfish profiteering of an elite few political insiders.

This is a glaring example of how corruption is marring the public's confidence in their elected and appointed officials. This latest revelation saddens me deeply. Justice must be done."
