Democrats Claim Full Control Of Burlington County Government With Commissioners And Surrogate Wins

Incumbent Burlington County Commissioners Felicia Hopson and Dan O'Connell have been re-elected to serve on the Board through 2024. Brian J. Carlin, incumbent Mayor of Burlington Township, has been elected Burlington County Surrogate, giving Democrats complete control of all eight county-wide elected offices.

Commissioner Hopson was first elected in 2018, and O'Connell was chosen by the Burlington County Democratic Committee to fill a vacancy in 2019. He was elected to serve the remainder of the term by voters in a special election later that year.

The Burlington County Government will reorganize on New Year's Day, while the 220th New Jersey Legislature will convene on Tuesday, January 11 with new Senate President Nicholas Scutari and new Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz. Craig Coughlin and South Jersey's Lou Greenwald have been reelected to serve as General Assembly Speaker and Majority Leader. Governor Phil Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver will begin their 2nd terms on Tuesday, January 18.
